Product Details

The TabTime Medelert is an automatic pill dispenser designed to organize, secure, and dispense medication for persons living with dementia or memory loss. It holds up to 28 compartments, each fitting up to 18 aspirin-sized pills, allowing caregivers to prepare a full week of medication at 4 doses per day (or two weeks at 2 doses per day). At each scheduled time, the dispenser automatically rotates to the correct dose and triggers an audio and visual alarm (flashing LED on the lid) that sounds for up to 30 minutes until the pills are retrieved. The user simply tips the device over to release the medication. A secure metal lock and key prevents access to other compartments, reducing the risk of double-dosing. Available with a white or transparent lid. Replacement trays and spare keys sold separately. Powered by 4 AA batteries (included). Dose identification rings included in English, French, and Spanish.

  • The TabTime Medelert Automatic Pill Dispenser is suitable for care communities and professionals looking for a reliable dispensing solution to support medication adherence among residents.

Managing medication for a person living with dementia is one of the most stressful parts of caregiving. Missed doses, double doses, and pills taken at the wrong time can all have serious health consequences. A standard pill organizer sorts medication by day, but it does not prevent someone from opening the wrong compartment or forgetting to take their pills entirely.

We chose the TabTime Medelert because it addresses both problems at once. It automatically rotates to the correct dose at the scheduled time and locks all other compartments, so the person can only access the pills they are supposed to take right now. The alarm is persistent - it sounds for up to 30 minutes, combining a buzzer with a flashing LED - which gives the person repeated prompts to take their medication. Retrieving the pills is simple: just tip the dispenser over. There is no need to open a lid or press a button. The locking mechanism gives caregivers peace of mind, especially when they cannot be physically present at every dose. Its 28 compartments and up to 6 daily alarms make it flexible enough to handle complex medication schedules. The dispenser is also 20% larger than comparable models, which means more room for multiple pills per dose.

Insert the 4 included AA batteries into the base of the dispenser.

Remove the medication tray by unlocking the lid with the included key.

Fill the 28 compartments with the appropriate medication for each scheduled dose. Use the dose identification rings to label each section.

Replace the tray, lock the lid, and program the dispensing times using the control buttons on the base of the unit.

At each programmed time, the tray rotates automatically and the alarm sounds. The person tips the dispenser over to release the pills into their hand. The alarm stops once the pills are dispensed.

Refill weekly (for 4 daily doses) or every two weeks (for 2 daily doses).

Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Wash the medication tray with warm water and mild soap as needed, then dry thoroughly before reloading.

Replace batteries when alarm volume decreases or rotation slows.

FAQs

Up to 6 doses per day. With 28 compartments, the most common setup is 4 doses per day for 7 days, or 2 doses per day for 14 days.

If the person does not tip the dispenser within the 30-minute alarm window, the alarm eventually stops and the tray rotates to the next scheduled dose. The missed pills stay locked inside the compartment. Caregivers can check for missed doses when refilling the tray.

This dispenser works best for persons in the mild to moderate stages who can still respond to an alarm and tip the device. In advanced stages, where the person is no longer able to interact with new devices, a caregiver would need to handle dispensing directly.

No. The metal lock and key prevent the lid from being opened. Only the currently scheduled compartment is accessible through the dispensing slot, so there is no risk of double-dosing.
