A serendipitous idea that became a global movement
In 2014, Rahzeb Choudhury and his team set out to document the life stories of older adults by photographing their front doors and applying those images as decals in a care home in the Netherlands. What started as a storytelling project quickly revealed something unexpected: for residents living with advanced dementia, seeing a familiar door had real therapeutic value. True Doors was born from that moment, and has been improving the lives of people in residential long-term care ever since.
