Product Details

The VTech SN5147 is a corded and cordless phone system designed to make calling easier for older adults and persons living with dementia, hearing loss, or vision difficulties. The system includes a corded base unit and a cordless handset with photo speed dial, both featuring big buttons, large backlit displays, and full-duplex speakerphones. Incoming sound can be amplified up to 50dB, and the ringer reaches up to 90dB with a flashing visual alert so calls are not missed. 8 one-touch photo dial keys let the person call family and friends by pressing a familiar face. A built-in digital answering machine records up to 22 minutes of messages. The system also includes talking caller ID, smart call blocker, and is hearing aid compatible (T-coil). All features can be set up by a caregiver in advance. Expandable with additional VTech handsets (SN5107, SN5307). Trilingual prompts in English, French, and Spanish.

  • The VTech SN5147 Amplified Phone is suitable for persons living with dementia or memory loss who benefit from photo speed dial to call family with one touch.
  • The VTech SN5147 Amplified Phone is suitable for older adults with hearing or vision difficulties who need amplified sound, a loud ringer, and large buttons.
  • The VTech SN5147 Amplified Phone is suitable for caregivers who want to pre-configure a complete phone system, including answering machine and call blocking, before delivering it to a loved one.

Using the phone can become frustrating and isolating for an older adult who has trouble hearing the ringer, reading small buttons, or remembering phone numbers. For persons living with dementia, those challenges multiply: they may not recognize a ringing sound, may struggle to navigate a contact list, or may answer unwanted calls that cause confusion or anxiety.

We chose the VTech SN5147 because it addresses all of these barriers in a single system. The 90dB ringer and flashing visual alert make incoming calls hard to miss. The 50dB amplification and tone control ensure conversations come through clearly, even for people with significant hearing loss. The 8 photo speed-dial keys remove the need to remember or look up numbers - the person just presses a photo to call. The smart call blocker helps filter out unwanted calls, reducing disruption and potential scam exposure. The built-in answering machine with 22-minute recording and slow-speed playback gives the person time to understand messages at their own pace.

What makes this system especially practical for caregivers is that everything - speed dials, call blocking, answering machine greeting, volume settings - can be configured before the phone reaches the person using it. It also serves as a base station for additional handsets like the SN5107 or the SN5307 photo dial handset, so the system can be expanded to cover multiple rooms.

Le set-up ardu.

Useful and practical, the images are helpful for my mother and the fact that incoming calls are monitored is reassuring to avoid malice and fraud.

Not a good experience with the phone. The problem is that it has no display and also the voice is hard to understand.

Because her old answering machine was too complicated to operate and only in English, my mother-in-law couldn't listen to her messages! Now that she has this new model, it's child's play for her and she never misses a message! I programmed it at home before giving it to her, and it was perfect! What's more, the photos are an added safety feature in case of emergency!

Perfect for my father who has hearing problems. The ringer volume and call volume are perfect for him. The price is also very affordable. There is a possibility to add other V-tech products to this phone (other handset or emergency button).

Hello,
I found the programming quite complex. My father, who still lives with my mother, who is losing her autonomy, would not have been able to do it on his own. I found it quite difficult myself and had to go over it more than once just to program the time.

Using the buttons with photos is great, but then again, not everyone can manage a photo of this size. We don't have any software to do it, and again, I had to try several times to get it right. Maybe I should have called Eugéria for support...

It's a good phone, but for my 87-year-old father, it's far too complicated, he told me. Too many things to memorize, too many buttons...
Plus, he wanted another small handset on a small base, to put in his bathroom. I had to buy the handset, but on the base with 4 SN-5127 photos. It wasn't part of the kit, so I had to remove the calls and messages on two phones instead of one. In the end, the phones are at my place and he went back to his old kit.
I think it's too complicated for some people with cognitive loss. But this company says the opposite!

Eugeria was very courteous in answering all our questions before we purchased the phone for our elderly mother.
We then received the phone quickly, and programmed it by removing all the functions deemed unnecessary.
The result is a phone that is simply used to receive calls and make calls... this second function being greatly facilitated by the photos added to the device.
We (all the kids) are very happy with this purchase and, more importantly, so is our mom!
Thank you Eugeria for making our elders more comfortable!

Great for people who are losing their independence, wireless is more difficult to understand for these people.

L

It's so easy for people with cognitive problems. The wireless one is too complicated and I bought the other wireless one with the photos. However, the wireless one that comes with the phone is used to program the big phone and the other wireless one with the photos. You have to keep it charged and plugged in so that the memory of the other devices isn't erased.

My mother appreciates the fact that the dialed digits are vocal. She had a hard time recognizing the answer button, but after a few days it is now a given.
